Egypt also praised the Emirati leadership in the negotiations that led to the "UAE Consensus", a set of measures meant to mobilise international efforts to address key climate action issues and garner the necessary support for their implementation based on scientific recommendations and agreed-upon principles, particularly justice and fairness.
This includes launching the first edition of the global assessment of climate action efforts since the 2015 Paris Agreement and the framework for the global adaptation goal.
In a statement on Wednesday, Egypt emphasised that the success of the UAE is the latest in a series of Arab accomplishments in the field of climate action, especially following the success achieved during COP27, held last year in Sharm El-Sheikh.
In a separate statement, Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad congratulated the UAE on the success of COP28, confirming that the conference is developed upon the outcomes of COP27.
COP27 paved the way for important decisions, with the Loss and Damage Fund launch being the most significant achievement, Fouad said.
