Yemen Public Committee for the Protection and Development of Democracy founded.
YemenOnline. Feb 08, 2009 – Al-Resalah Center for Studies and Democratic Development in Yemen announced the establishment of an independent public committee called "the Public Committee for the Protection and Development of Democracy." As an initiative for punctual enforcement of the constitution and refuting all postponement attempts, the Committee held its first meeting on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Al-Resalah Center in Sana'a, where a number of representatives of political parties and organizations and civil society organizations met with political activists, academics, intellectuals and jurists. The meeting discussed the most important developments taking place at the national level and in the light of the forthcoming implementation of the parliamentary elections, emphasizing the fact that any attempts to postpone the elections are considered just calls the goal of which is to violate democracy.
