A Yemeni Civil Society Organization calls donors to support "Voter, the Monitor" Project.

YemenOnline, Special. Feb 21 – National Center for Human Rights and Democratic Development NOD  called donors from the European Union and United States of America to support "Voter, the Monitor" Project through which voters are allowed greater participation than just casting votes, by acting as monitors and thereby maximizing popular confidence in the electoral process.

"Aiming at enhancing the culture of Democracy and raising awareness of Yemeni people regarding the electoral process, the project basically focuses on the positive participation of voters in monitoring elections", said Mr. Jamal Al-Awadhi Head of the National Center of Human Rights and Democratic Development in a special statement to YemenOnline.

"Electoral fraud and irregularities – underage and multiple voting – could be minimized and efficiently countered through this project which may as well serve as a learning tool", he added.

Yemen is currently witnessing a political crisis. The opposition has not yet officially declared whether it will participate or not in the upcoming parliamentary elections whereas the ruling party has officially stated that the elections will be carried out in time.

"Regardless of parties conflicts over elections, "Voter, the Monitor" project could play such a vital role in any democratic activity to come." Mr. Al-Awadhi emphasized.
