Yemeni forces seize rebel explosives
YemenOnline.Oct 8- Yemeni police say they seized five trucks carrying explosives, drugs and gunpowder intended for al-Houthi rebels operating in the north of the country.

Police officials said they captured more than 300 bags of gunpowder and other contraband hidden under fruits and vegetables in the trucks, the officials Saba news agency reports.

In August Yemen launched a major military operation against al-Houthi rebels who the government said were trying to establish a caliphate in the north of the country.

The military operations sparked an international uproar over the subsequent humanitarian crisis and claims of mounting civilian casualties.

An airstrike by government forces in Amran province last month killed as many as 87 civilians.

The government, however, blames rebel fighters for using human shields.

In meetings Wednesday with British officials, meanwhile, Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi said the escalation was forced on his government because of rebel actions against citizens and governmental institutions in the northern province of Sadah, where the fighting is at its worst.
