| 26/1/2012 Yemeni government and European Union Commission signed Thursday two agreements to finance a fishing and human rights promotion projects in Yemen at a total cost of 18 million euro. Under the two agreements, the European Union will provide Yemen with 10.8 million to support fishing projects and 7.2 million euros to finance ambitious human rights-promotion projects. The pacts were signed by Yemeni Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Mohammed Al-Saadi and Managing Director for the Middle East and Southern Neighborhood at the European External Action Service Hugues Mingarelli. Minister Al-Saadi applauded the EU support to Yemen to help prove the transitional period successful. Al-Saadi underlined the importance of strengthening the existing partnership between Yemen and the EU and continuing the EU support to Yemen. For his part, Mingarelli said the European Union's support to Yemen focuses on enhancing good governance, combating corruption, promoting the state's institutions structures, improving food security capacity and restoring basic services such as electricity and water. Mingarelli arrived in Sanaa Wednesday on a several-day official visit to discuss aspects of partnership between the EU and Yemen in all domains particularly development. KUNA |
