Palestinian reconciliation talks in Yemen prolonged until Sunday
Foreign Minister, Dr. Abu Bakr al-Qirbi, said on Saturday that reconciliation talks between Fatah and Hamas have been further extended through Sunday in order to let Hamas' senior leaders review a final draft of Yemen’s proposed initiative.
“We have reached a final agreement on the Yemeni initiative. But our Hamas brothers have demanded more time to consult their leaders," al-Qirbi told reporters on Saturday witout elaborating,”
The initiative mainly calls for the situation in Gaza to return to the way it was before Hamas seized control of the territory and for early Palestinian elections to be held.
Two delegates from Palestinian rival factions Fatah and the Islamic Hamas movement are in Sana'a for talks with Yemeni officials on ending their discord.
The talks are based on a seven-point plan proposed by President Saleh to heal the rift between the two factions.
