Bin Laden's bodyguard warns of escalation in Yemen

A former bodyguard of Osama bin Laden warned of an escalation in fighting between al-Qaida and Yemeni authorities and predicted the government would need outside intervention to stay in power.

Dozens killed in clashes between army troops and al-Houthi fighters
Sana’a, May 13, 2008 (yemenonline) – Scores of people have been killed or injured in renewed clashes between security forces and al-Houthi fighters Amran and Sa’ada governorate on Sunday and Monday,” tribal sources said. 

26 rebels and 12 soldiers were killed in heavy fighting between government forces and al-Houthi fighters in Harf Sufyan area in Amran governorate in the few past days.  

Sources said that al-Houthis followers shelled a tank and destroyed two others.  

Al-Houthis representative, Saleh Habra, said Qatari representatives are scheduled to arrive in Yemen on Monday to continue mediation efforts that produced a cease-fire last year but failed to quell the violence.
