Sa’ada war extends to three more provinces

Sana’a, May 17, 2008 (YemenOnline) - A military source said that 40 al-Houthi rebels and eight soldiers were killed in Harf Sufyan district in Amran governorate until Tuesday.

The sources added that security forces defeated all al-Houthi rebels out of Harf Sufyan area. The source accused al-Houthis of trying to attack government and services installations in the area.

Media reports indicted that al-Houthi fighters downed a helicopter in Harf Sufyan last week.

Sources said that in resumed clashes with security forces al-Houthi fighters took control of two new locations in Haidan area in Sa’ada.

The sources added that eight troops were killed and two senior commanders were critically injured in sporadic clashes between security forces and al-Houthi followers in Bani Husheish area in Sana’a governorate.

Sources said that al-Houthis followers attacked a military barrack in al-Jawf governorate Saturday morning.

It seems that al-Houthis extended Sa’da war to Amran, Sana’a and al-Jawf too.

This comes one week after rebel leader, Abdulmalik al-Houthi, threatened to take the war out of Sa’da if the government does not commit to the Doha-sponsored deal.
