Breaking News: Yemen announces new Cabinet reshuffle

Sana’a, May 19, 2008 (Yemenonline) – A republican decree was issued on Monday announcing a Cabinet reshuffle in several ministerial posts following a governor election that left some ministeries vacant.  

Major changes included the appointment of former deputy premier and interior minister, Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, as deputy prime minister for security and defense affairs (new post), former Sa’ada governor, Rashad al-Masri, as interior minister, former Taiz province governor, Sadeq Ameen Abu Ras, as deputy prime minister for internal affairs and Ameer Salem al-Aidarous as minister of oil and minerals. 

Former mayor of Sana’a, Dr. Yahya al-Shueibi, was appointed minister of civil affairs, a post previously held by former minister Hamoud al-Sufi who was elected as a new governor for Taiz province.  

Hodeida former governor, Mohammad Saleh Shamlan, was named minister of fisheries wealth and Ahmad Musa’ead Hussein, Awadh Sa'ad al-Suqatri, were appointed ministers of expatriate affairs and electricity respectively.  

Abdulrahman Mohammad Tarmoum was appointed as state minister and prime minister's director.  

Key ministerial posts such as ministries of defense, telecommunication, finance and planning and international cooperation remained unchanged.        

President Saleh also issued a republican decree on Monday appointing nine new members in the Shura Council.
