Eight worshipers shot dead,12 wounded in mosque shooting in Yemen
Sana’a, May 30, 2008 (YemenOnline) - Eight people were shot dead and several others injured on Friday when a gunman opened fire outside a mosque in a village in Amran province.
"Unknown man opened fire on worshippers in a mosque in the village of Qahal 60 km (40 miles) north of Sana’a capital) killing eight and injuring 12 others,” an official source said.
The source added eight people were killed and about 12 others injured, 10 of them seriously.
The source said that Abdullah Saleh Zaid al-Qahali, the man behind the shooting was apprehended and taken for interrogation.
The source said that the motives behind the shooting were criminal and that the gunman had land dispute with one of the worshipers, who was also killed.
Local sources said that the person behind the shooting fled the scene.
The shooting comes one day after security authorities said they arrested an 11- al-Qaeda cell in the capital Sana’a.
