Artifacts Seized at Checkpoint
YemenOnline- June 28, 2008- Security thwarted a doctor's assistant's attempt to smuggle a ten-centimeter bronze statuette to Saudi Arabia. The officers were lucky to find the figurine hidden in the assistant's suitcase, in the governorate of Hajjah. The laws on smuggling artifacts are quite strict. The officers informed the Ministry of the Interior of the offense and they were ordered to bring the smugglers into custody.
This comes two days after a checkpoint outside of Sana'a seized 16 precious artifacts from smugglers. Investigators are now trying to decide if the ten-centimeter statuette is somehow connected to the previous smuggling bust.
