Yemen accuses Eritrea of torturing Yemeni Fishermen YemenOnline- August 15,2008 - The Yemeni Interior Ministry accused the Eritrean authorities of torturing 42 Yemeni fishermen after capturing them on the Red Sea. The Eritrean authorities took control of four boats and detained the crews for several hours, the Information Center in the Ministry of the Interior disclosed. According to this report, the Eritrean authorities confiscated the three vessels and returned the 42 fishermen in just one of the boats. The Yemeni Coast Guard said that the fishermen told them they were subjected to beating and ill-treatment and that the seamen’s injuries were still clearly visible. The Information Center stated that Yemeni authorities are currently investigating the issue.
