White Gold Discovered in Yemen : Geological Authority Announces Major Find in Hadramout
Hadramout -- The Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority in Yemen’s Hadramout Governorate has officially announced the discovery of white gold deposits in the districts of Broum Mayfa and Hajar, marking a significant milestone in the country’s mineral exploration efforts.
According to the Authority, preliminary geological surveys and sampling operations have confirmed the presence of valuable platinum-group metals, commonly referred to as white gold, in multiple sites across the two districts.
The announcement comes amid growing interest in Yemen’s untapped mineral wealth, particularly in Hadramout, which is known for its diverse geological formations and resource potential.
The discovery is expected to attract both local and international investment in the mining sector, with the Authority emphasizing its commitment to ensuring that exploration and extraction activities adhere to environmental and safety standards.
Officials noted that further technical studies and feasibility assessments are underway to determine the commercial viability of the deposits.
“This discovery represents a promising opportunity for economic development and job creation in the region,” said a spokesperson for the Geological Authority.
“We are working closely with relevant government bodies to regulate future mining operations and ensure transparency and sustainability.”
The Broum Mayfa and Hajar districts have previously been identified as mineral-rich zones, with past reports indicating the presence of gold, silver, and copper. The latest findings reinforce Hadramout’s status as a strategic hub for Yemen’s natural resource development.
Local communities and civil society organizations have called for greater oversight and equitable distribution of mining revenues, urging authorities to prioritize public benefit and prevent exploitation.
The Geological Authority has pledged to maintain open communication with stakeholders and publish regular updates on the progress of exploration activities.
Further announcements are expected as the Authority completes its next phase of geological mapping and resource classification.
