Sweden Launches Official Inquiry into “Islamist Infiltration” and Muslim Brotherhood Influence

Sweden’s Minister for Education and Integration, Simona Mohamsson, announced that the government has decided to launch an official investigation into what she described as “Islamist infiltration” in the country, with a particular focus on the activities of the Muslim Brotherhood and their attempts to influence Swedish society and politics, according to Expressen.
In her statement, Mohamsson said:
“We see that political Islam has taken root, allowing it to dominate neighborhoods, schools, and parts of the welfare system – and even threaten political parties. This is unacceptable. We must confront it with full force.”
She stressed that the majority of Muslims in Sweden live in harmony with society, celebrating both Eid al-Fitr and Christmas, watching Arabic dramas as well as SVT programs. However, she noted that ordinary Muslims are the ones most harmed by the rise of Islamists.
French Report… and Qatari Funding
The Swedish government’s move follows an official report published in France in the summer of 2025, which revealed the extent of the Muslim Brotherhood’s influence across Europe. The report identified Sweden as an active hub for the group, alongside France, Germany, the UK, and other European countries.
According to the report, the Brotherhood’s influence in Sweden stems from three main factors:
1. Funding from Qatar.
2. Sweden’s lenient policies on multiculturalism.
3. Close ties between the movement and certain local political parties, particularly the Social Democrats.
Ongoing Debate over the Islamic Association
Researchers argue that the Islamic Association in Sweden represents the Brotherhood’s local branch – a claim the association strongly denies.
Mohamsson emphasized that Islamism undermines democratic values, stating:
“Islamism does not want constitutions, it wants Sharia. It does not want integration, but isolation. It wants men to control women, and it denies people the right to love who they choose. We are not fighting Islam; we are fighting Islamists who exploit religion to undermine our society.”
She also warned against the naivety of some local politicians, citing the Social Democrats’ decision in Gothenburg to allocate prayer halls to Islamist groups as an example.
The Next Step: A Broad Investigation
The minister concluded her remarks by saying that the inquiry will be comprehensive, adding:
“Islamism is not just about violence and terrorism, but also the systematic use of democratic rules to undermine our values. We have allowed them to spread for too long and now it is time to stop it.”
