Houthi Militants Raid International Medical Corps Office in Sanaa, Detain Local Staff
Sanaa– Houthi militants have reportedly stormed the offices of the International Medical Corps (IMC) in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, detaining several local employees in a move that has sparked alarm among humanitarian organizations operating in the country.
According to local sources and aid workers familiar with the incident, the raid occurred earlier this week when armed Houthi personnel entered the IMC compound without prior notice, confiscated equipment, and detained multiple Yemeni staff members.
The reasons for the detentions remain unclear, but observers fear the move is part of a broader crackdown on international aid groups in Houthi-controlled areas.
The incident follows a series of similar raids targeting UN agencies and humanitarian organizations in recent weeks, raising concerns about the safety of aid workers and the future of relief operations in northern Yemen. Rights monitors have condemned the detentions as violations of international humanitarian law and called for the immediate release of all detained personnel.
“This escalation threatens the delivery of life-saving assistance to millions of Yemenis,” said one humanitarian official. “Targeting medical and relief staff undermines trust and jeopardizes neutral humanitarian work.”
The International Medical Corps has not yet issued a public statement regarding the raid. The organization has been active in Yemen for years, providing critical health services, nutrition support, and emergency response in conflict-affected communities.
