The prices of basic commodities in Yemen increased by up to 85 percent during this year compared to what they were in the previous year, while the rate of increase in prices exceeded 560 percent compared to the prices that prevailed in 2015, before the outbreak of the war triggered by the Houthi militia.

The war also caused a reduction in employment opportunities in the agricultural sector by up to 50 percent from what it was when the militias stormed the Yemeni capital and overthrew the legitimate government in 2014, when the contribution of this sector did not exceed only 15 percent of the Gross Domestic Product ( GDP), according to a recent UN report.

The report on Yemen’s Food Security Outlook for the six months from March to next September stated that, before the war in Ukraine, food prices were rising due to the devaluation of the currency and the rise in fuel prices across the country.
