Sana’a – Local sources in the Yemeni capital have confirmed that armed Houthi militants stormed the headquarters of Islamic Relief in Sana’a earlier this week, seizing equipment and disrupting humanitarian operations.

According to eyewitnesses and aid workers familiar with the incident, the raid was carried out by a group of Houthi-affiliated security personnel who forcibly entered the organization’s premises without prior notice or legal authorization. 

The militants reportedly confiscated computers, communication devices, and logistical supplies, and ordered staff to vacate the building.

Islamic Relief, a UK-based humanitarian organization, has operated in Yemen for years, providing critical support in food security, health, and emergency response. 

The raid has raised alarm among international aid agencies, many of which have faced increasing restrictions and intimidation in Houthi-controlled areas.

“This is a serious violation of humanitarian space and a direct threat to the delivery of life-saving assistance,” said a local NGO representative who requested anonymity for security reasons.

The Houthis have not issued an official statement regarding the incident. However, the move comes amid growing tensions between the group and international organizations, following recent UN decisions to suspend health support in northern Yemen due to operational interference and staff detentions.

Humanitarian observers warn that such actions could further isolate vulnerable populations and deepen the country’s already dire crisis.
