Tragic Road Accident in Yemen Claims 15 Lives, Including Women and Children
Marib – A horrific traffic accident on the international highway in Al-Wadi district, Marib governorate, northeastern Yemen, claimed the lives of at least 15 people and left two others injured, including a young girl in critical condition, according to security and local sources.
The incident occurred late Monday evening when a mid-sized passenger bus collided with a motorcycle and a cargo truck. The bus, which was powered by gas, caught fire upon impact, resulting in a massive blaze that engulfed the vehicle and left most of the victims burned beyond recognition.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, with firefighters working to extinguish the flames and ambulances transporting the injured to Kara General Hospital for urgent medical care. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
Local sources described the fire as “catastrophic,” noting that both the bus and the truck were completely destroyed. The intensity of the blaze has made it difficult to identify the victims, many of whom are believed to be women and children.
This tragedy adds to a growing list of deadly road accidents in Yemen, where poor road conditions, excessive speeding, and lack of vehicle maintenance continue to claim hundreds of lives each month. The incident has renewed calls for urgent reforms to improve road safety and emergency response infrastructure across the country.
