Yemen : Efforts Underway to Revive French Language Centers in Aden, Taiz
ADEN – Yemeni authorities and French diplomatic representatives have initiated steps to reactivate French language centers in the southern city of Aden and the southwestern city of Taiz.
The initiative, led by the French Embassy in Yemen in coordination with local education authorities, aims to restore the role of French language instruction in Yemen’s academic and cultural landscape.
The centers, which had been inactive due to years of conflict and instability, once served as vital hubs for language learning, cultural exchange, and academic cooperation.
According to officials involved in the project, preliminary assessments of the facilities in both cities have already begun. Renovation plans are being developed to rehabilitate the centers’ infrastructure, update educational materials, and recruit qualified instructors.
The French government is expected to provide technical and pedagogical support, including training programs for local teachers and the provision of modern curricula aligned with international standards.
“This is a significant step toward rebuilding Yemen’s cultural and educational institutions,” said a representative from the Ministry of Education in Aden. “Reopening these centers will offer new opportunities for youth and foster stronger ties with the Francophone world.”
Local communities in both Aden and Taiz have welcomed the news, expressing hope that the revival of the centers will contribute to broader educational development and cultural diversity in the country.
The French language centers are expected to reopen their doors in early 2026, pending the completion of renovations and staffing. Registration for new students is anticipated to begin in the coming months.
