EU Renews Call for Comprehensive Settlement in Yemen, Reaffirms Support for Unity and Sovereignty
Aden – The European Union has reiterated its call for a comprehensive political settlement to the ongoing conflict in Yemen, emphasizing its unwavering support for the country’s unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
In a recent statement issued by the EU External Action Service, the bloc urged all Yemeni parties to engage constructively in inclusive peace talks under the auspices of the United Nations. The EU stressed that only a negotiated political solution can bring lasting peace and stability to Yemen, which has endured over a decade of war, humanitarian suffering, and economic collapse.
“The European Union remains firmly committed to a unified, sovereign, and peaceful Yemen,” the statement read, reaffirming the EU’s backing for the Presidential Leadership Council and the internationally recognized government.
The EU also expressed grave concern over the deteriorating humanitarian and security situation in the country, including the impact of continued hostilities on civilians and the obstruction of humanitarian access. It condemned recent Houthi attacks on maritime shipping in the Red Sea, warning that such actions threaten regional stability and global trade.
As part of its ongoing engagement, the EU pledged continued diplomatic and humanitarian support to Yemen and called on the international community to intensify efforts to facilitate a durable peace process.
The statement comes amid renewed diplomatic momentum and growing international pressure to end the protracted conflict, which has displaced millions and left over 21 million people in need of humanitarian assistance.
