Aden – The State of Kuwait, through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), has announced a new $1 million humanitarian grant to support relief efforts in Yemen. The funding will be channeled through the Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF) and is aimed at combating hunger, preventing the spread of infectious diseases, and assisting displaced families affected by the ongoing crisis.

The grant agreement was signed in coordination with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), marking Kuwait’s continued commitment to humanitarian action in conflict-affected regions. The initiative is part of a broader $4 million package that also includes support for Sudan.

According to KFAED officials, the Yemen portion of the grant will focus on:

- Delivering life-saving food assistance to communities facing acute food insecurity.

- Providing medical supplies and sanitation support to curb disease outbreaks.

- Supporting displaced families with shelter, basic services, and protection measures.

Waleed Al-Bahar, Acting Director General of KFAED, stated that the grant reflects Kuwait’s enduring humanitarian values and its dedication to helping vulnerable populations across the region. He emphasized the importance of swift and coordinated action to address Yemen’s worsening humanitarian conditions.

UN Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Tom Fletcher, praised Kuwait’s leadership and generosity, describing the country as a “pioneer in humanitarian work.” He noted that the partnership between KFAED and OCHA will enable the implementation of life-saving programs in Yemen and strengthen institutional capacity to respond to emergencies.

Yemen continues to face one of the world’s most complex humanitarian crises, with over 21 million people in need of assistance and millions displaced due to conflict and economic collapse. Kuwait’s latest contribution is expected to make a meaningful impact in alleviating suffering and restoring hope to affected communities.
