Yemen : Houthi Forces Impose Siege on Qabas Village in Al-Jawf
Al-Jawf — Tensions are escalating in Yemen’s northern Al-Jawf province after Houthi militias imposed a full-scale siege on Qabas village, located in the Al-Humaydat district, under the pretext of pursuing wanted individuals.
Local sources report that the siege, which began earlier this week, has effectively cut off the village from surrounding areas. Armed Houthi units have established checkpoints at all entry points, restricting the movement of residents and blocking the delivery of food, medicine, and other essential supplies.
Eyewitnesses say the situation is growing increasingly volatile, with fears mounting that the blockade could lead to armed confrontations between the Houthis and local tribesmen. Community leaders have called for immediate de-escalation and warned of the humanitarian consequences of prolonged isolation.
“The people of Qabas are being collectively punished,” said a tribal elder from the region. “This siege is not about law enforcement—it’s about intimidation and control.”
Human rights activists have condemned the move as a violation of international humanitarian law, urging the United Nations and humanitarian agencies to intervene and ensure the protection of civilians.
The Houthi group has not issued an official statement, but sources close to the group claim the operation is part of a broader campaign to apprehend individuals accused of collaborating with rival factions.
This development adds to the growing instability in Al-Jawf, a province that has witnessed repeated clashes and shifting frontlines throughout Yemen’s ongoing conflict.
