Yemen : STC Announces Open Sit-In in Seiyun, Hadramawt to Demand Southern Statehood
Seiyun — The Southern Transitional Council (STC) declared on Saturday the launch of an open-ended sit-in in the city of Seiyun, Hadramawt governorate, to press for support of the separatist option and the establishment of an independent southern state.
Local sources said STC supporters gathered in central Seiyun, setting up tents and staging demonstrations to emphasize their demands. Organizers stated that the sit-in will continue until their political objectives are acknowledged, including recognition of the southern cause and backing for self-determination.
The move comes amid heightened tensions in Hadramawt, where the STC has sought to expand its influence following recent military and political developments. Analysts note that the sit-in reflects the council’s strategy of mobilizing grassroots pressure to advance its separatist agenda.
Authorities have yet to issue an official response to the announcement, while observers warn that the protest could further deepen divisions in the already fragile security landscape of eastern Yemen.
