Aden - Masam Project announced the successful demolition of 3,977 explosive remnants of war in the Bab al-Mandab area of Taiz Governorate on October 2, 2025.
The operation, conducted by Masam’s Special Task Team 2, targeted landmines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) left behind by Houthi forces. The destroyed items included:
- 31 anti-tank mines
- 28 anti-personnel mines
- 39 assorted shells
- 22 IEDs
- 2,139 rounds of ammunition
- 1,705 fuses and stun lighters
- 11 rockets and 2 hand grenades
This clearance mission is part of Masam’s ongoing efforts to restore safety and stability across liberated Yemeni territories. Since its launch in 2018, the project has removed over 516,000 explosive devices and cleared more than 70 million square meters of contaminated land.
Masam’s director, Osama Al-Gosaibi, emphasized the humanitarian impact of these operations, noting that landmines and UXOs have claimed the lives of over 20,000 civilians, many of them women and children.
The Bab al-Mandab clearance is seen as a critical milestone in protecting civilian lives and enabling the return of displaced communities.
The Masam Project remains one of Yemen’s most vital humanitarian initiatives, working tirelessly to eliminate the deadly legacy of war and pave the way for reconstruction and peace.
