Masam Project Clears 767 Explosive Devices in Yemen in One Week

Aden – The Saudi-funded Masam Project has announced the clearance of 767 explosive devices from Yemeni territory during the first week of September, marking another milestone in its ongoing mission to protect civilians from the deadly legacy of landmines and unexploded ordnance.
According to the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), the cleared explosives included 726 pieces of unexploded ordnance, 30 anti-tank mines, eight anti-personnel mines, and three improvised explosive devices (IEDs). These devices had been planted indiscriminately across residential areas, roads, and agricultural lands, posing a severe threat to civilians, especially children and the elderly.
Since its launch in mid-2018, Project Masam has successfully removed over 513,000 explosive devices from various regions in Yemen, contributing to the restoration of safe living conditions and enabling the return of displaced families.
“Every mine removed is a life potentially saved,” said a Masam spokesperson. “Our teams remain committed to clearing Yemen’s land of explosive hazards and helping communities rebuild in safety and dignity.”
The project’s latest operations covered more than 300,000 square meters of land, reflecting its sustained efforts across multiple governorates. Humanitarian organizations have praised Masam’s role in reducing the risks of injury and death, and in facilitating access for aid workers and development projects.
