Aden – Yemeni security forces have arrested two foreign nationals—one Afghan and one Syrian—after they allegedly crossed into the country illegally through remote border areas. 

The arrests took place earlier this week in the eastern province of Al-Mahra, a region known for its porous borders and limited surveillance infrastructure.

According to local authorities, the two men were intercepted during a routine patrol near the border with Oman. Preliminary investigations suggest they entered Yemen without valid documentation and may have been attempting to reach other parts of the country amid ongoing regional instability.

Security officials have not disclosed the identities of the detainees but confirmed that both individuals are being held for questioning. The motive behind their entry remains unclear, though authorities are exploring possible links to smuggling networks or attempts to join armed groups operating in the region.

Yemen’s Interior Ministry has reiterated its commitment to tightening border controls and preventing unauthorized entry, especially amid heightened concerns over national security and the movement of foreign fighters.

The arrests come as Yemen continues to grapple with a complex humanitarian crisis and ongoing conflict, which has made the country a transit point for migrants and displaced individuals from across the region.
