Yemen’s Security Forces Crack Down on Cybercrime with 79% Success Rate in 2025
Sana’a — Yemeni security authorities announced the resolution of 134 cybercrime cases out of 170 reported across liberated provinces from January through October 2025, marking a notable 79% success rate.
The Criminal Investigation Department revealed that 144 suspects were arrested in connection with various offenses, including online extortion, fraud, identity theft, and the distribution of immoral content.
Of these cases, 115 have been formally referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal action.
Taiz province topped the list with 85 recorded cybercrimes, followed by Aden with 39 cases, reflecting a surge in digital offenses in urban centers.
Officials noted that the rise in cybercrime correlates with increased internet penetration and social media usage, which has made individuals more vulnerable to online exploitation.
Security officials emphasized the importance of public awareness and digital literacy in combating cyber threats.
They also called for stronger collaboration between law enforcement and tech platforms to track and prevent online criminal networks.
This crackdown comes amid broader efforts to modernize Yemen’s cybersecurity infrastructure and reinforce legal frameworks to address emerging digital threats. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting citizens from online abuse and maintaining digital safety across the country.
