As part of the Saudi Masam project, 1.390 explosive devices planted by Yemeni Shiite Houthi militiamen over the past week have been removed in Yemen. 

Among the ordnance removed were five anti-personnel mines, 47 anti-tank mines, 1.337 unexploded ordnance and one explosive device, according to an activity report. Since the beginning of July, 4.230 mines have been defused across Yemen. Ousama al Gosaibi, director general of the initiative, said a total of 453.298 mines have been deactivated since the project began in 2018.

The explosives were planted indiscriminately and posed a threat to civilians, including children, women and the elderly. Demining operations took place in Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al Bayda, Al Dhale and Saada. The Masam project trains local demining engineers and provides them with modern equipment. It also offers support to Yemenis injured by explosive devices.
