Aden - A gunman suffering from mental health issues opened fire randomly inside a mosque in Yemen’s Al-Bayda province—under Houthi control—as worshippers recited Eid al-Adha chants, killing more than 12 people and injuring several others on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred at Hammat Akous Mosque in the village of Qarn al-Asad, part of Al-Arsh district in the city of Rada’a, shortly after the Maghrib (sunset) prayer.

According to the "Yemen Future" news platform, local sources reported that the attacker began his rampage by shooting two young men in a nearby grocery store before entering the mosque and opening fire on worshippers following the prayer.

Among the victims was a young man named Ahmad Abdulrabih Al-Aji, the store owner, as well as a friend from the Al-Riyashiyyah area. A 12-year-old child named Walad Al-Ansi was also injured, along with a shopkeeper who was inside the mosque at the time of the attack.

Sources noted that the mosque’s loudspeakers were on during the shooting, allowing the cries of the wounded to echo throughout the area, triggering panic among residents.

The attacker was apprehended approximately an hour and a half later. The injured were transferred to Dhamar Hospital for treatment, with fears that the death toll may rise due to the severity of some injuries.
