Yemen: Gov't forces Foil Attempt to Smuggle Half a Ton of Hashish Near Bab al-Mandab

Yemeni joint security forces announced on Saturday the seizure of a boat carrying nearly half a ton of hashish off the coast of Al-Madhariba and Ras Al-Ara in Lahj province, near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait.
According to an official statement, the operation followed intensive surveillance and tracking efforts, culminating in a naval interception 15 miles off the coast. Armed clashes erupted between security forces and the smugglers onboard before the boat was successfully seized and the suspects arrested.
Authorities confirmed that the boat was carrying approximately 500 kilograms of hashish, which has been secured as evidence. The detainees have been transferred to the relevant legal authorities for investigation and prosecution.
The operation is part of a broader campaign to combat arms, drug, and human trafficking along Yemen’s southern coastline. Security officials noted that the area has long served as a key smuggling corridor, particularly for weapons destined for the Houthi militia and other armed groups.
The success of the operation was attributed to the joint efforts of the National Shield Forces, the Giants Brigades, and the Security Belt Forces, who have intensified their presence along the 150-kilometer coastal strip stretching from Ras Amran to Bab al-Mandab.
