Yemeni Coast Guard Warns Against Swimming Along Aden’s Shores Until September Due to Dangerous Sea Conditions
Aden – The Yemeni Coast Guard has issued an urgent public warning advising citizens and visitors to refrain from swimming along the shores of Aden until the end of September, citing hazardous sea conditions caused by seasonal winds and strong currents.
According to a statement from the Gulf of Aden sector, the warning comes amid a surge in drowning incidents during the summer months, particularly in areas such as Goldmohr Beach, Lovers’ Beach, and Al-Tawahi. The Coast Guard emphasized that the combination of high waves, northern wind activity, and unpredictable water currents poses a serious threat to swimmers—even those with advanced skills.
As part of its awareness campaign, the Coast Guard has deployed loudspeakers along popular beaches, distributed safety leaflets, and installed informational boards to educate the public about the risks. Authorities also urged families to closely monitor children and avoid unsupervised swimming or beach outings during periods of wind activity.
The warning follows several tragic incidents, including the drowning of an 18-year-old girl and two young men in recent weeks. Officials stressed that the sea during this season is “unforgiving” and called on the public to treat safety guidelines as a matter of life and death.
