Saudi Arabia Pledges $90 Million in New Aid to Yemen: Reuters
Aden – Saudi Arabia has announced a new aid package worth $90 million to support Yemen’s struggling economy and humanitarian response, according to a report by Reuters. The funding is part of the Kingdom’s continued commitment to stabilizing its war-torn neighbor and alleviating the suffering of millions affected by years of conflict.
The aid will be channeled through the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), targeting critical sectors including health, food security, and economic recovery. Specific allocations are expected to support fuel supplies for power stations, medical services, and food distribution in government-controlled areas.
Saudi officials emphasized that the assistance reflects Riyadh’s “strategic and humanitarian responsibility” toward Yemen, where more than 21 million people remain in need of aid, and over 4 million are internally displaced.
The announcement comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts to revive peace talks between Yemen’s internationally recognized government and the Houthi movement. It also follows previous Saudi financial interventions, including a $1.2 billion deposit earlier this year to support Yemen’s central bank and stabilize the national currency.
Yemeni government officials welcomed the new funding, describing it as a “lifeline” for essential services and a boost to economic resilience. “This support will help us maintain basic infrastructure and deliver urgent assistance to the most vulnerable,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.
International observers note that Saudi Arabia remains Yemen’s largest bilateral donor, having contributed billions of dollars in humanitarian and development aid since the conflict escalated in 2015.
