Houthis Escalate Confrontation with Israel as Yemen’s Islah Distances Itself from Muslim Brotherhood

Sana’a — Yemen’s fragile geopolitical landscape is facing renewed turbulence as Houthi forces intensify their military provocations against Israel, drawing the war-torn country deeper into a regional confrontation. Meanwhile, the Islah Party, Yemen’s most prominent Sunni political faction, has publicly denied any formal ties to the Muslim Brotherhood amid growing scrutiny of its ideological affiliations.
In recent weeks, Houthi militias have launched a series of drone and missile attacks targeting Israeli infrastructure, including strategic sites in Eilat and the Ramon Airport near the Dead Sea. Israeli defense officials have responded with airstrikes on Houthi positions in Sana’a and Hodeidah, signaling the opening of a new southern front in Tel Aviv’s broader campaign against Iranian-backed groups.
“The Houthis do not represent Yemen,” said Koobi Lavi, a former adviser to Israel’s Ministry of Defense. “They are an Iranian proxy exploiting regional chaos to assert influence far beyond their mandate”.
In parallel, the Islah Party has issued statements distancing itself from the Muslim Brotherhood, amid accusations of ideological overlap and covert alliances. While historically viewed as the Brotherhood’s Yemeni branch, Islah leaders now emphasize their national priorities and deny any formal organizational links.
As Yemen becomes increasingly entangled in external conflicts, the divide between ideological posturing and pragmatic politics continues to widen—leaving civilians caught in the crossfire of regional ambitions and internal rivalries.
