EU Reaffirms Commitment to Sustainable Political Settlement in Yemen
Sana'a — The European Union has renewed its commitment to supporting a sustainable political solution in Yemen, emphasizing the urgent need for inclusive dialogue and long-term peace amid ongoing humanitarian and security challenges.
In a statement issued by the EU External Action Service, the bloc reiterated its backing for United Nations-led efforts to broker a comprehensive peace agreement between all Yemeni parties. The EU stressed that only a negotiated political settlement can bring lasting stability to the country, which has endured more than a decade of conflict.
“The European Union remains firmly committed to a unified, sovereign, and peaceful Yemen,” the statement read. “We call on all parties to engage constructively with the UN Special Envoy and to prioritize the needs of the Yemeni people.”
The EU also pledged continued humanitarian assistance and development aid, while urging respect for international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians. It welcomed recent regional de-escalation efforts and encouraged further confidence-building measures, including prisoner exchanges and economic cooperation.
This renewed stance comes as diplomatic momentum builds around a potential ceasefire and broader peace framework, with international actors intensifying pressure for a resolution that addresses both political grievances and humanitarian needs.
