Texas Governor Escalates Tensions: CAIR Accused of Supporting Muslim Brotherhood Networks in the U.S.A
Washington- Texas Governor Escalates Tensions: CAIR Accused of Supporting Muslim Brotherhood Networks in the U.S.Washington- A new wave of controversy is sweeping across the United States over the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the country’s largest Muslim civil rights organization, as lawmakers and conservative research centers renew accusations linking the group to the Muslim Brotherhood.
Political Figures and Think Tanks Revive Allegations
Several members of Congress, along with conservative policy institutes, argue that some of CAIR’s political positions and community-based activities show “ideological alignment” with the Muslim Brotherhood.
According to these critics, CAIR’s involvement in education, community programs and legal advocacy has been used — as they claim — to shape public discourse in ways that “advance the agenda of political Islam.”
Texas Governor Steps In: “CAIR Is a Front for Brotherhood-Linked Groups”
In a significant escalation, Texas Governor Greg Abbott publicly accused CAIR of operating as “a front for groups tied to the Muslim Brotherhood within the United States.”
Abbott stated that the organization’s role “extends far beyond civil rights work” and contributes to “targeted political influence,” particularly within state institutions.
He added that Texas “will not allow any organization acting as a cover for extremist groups to exploit state laws,” vowing that authorities will “review the organization’s presence and influence across educational and governmental institutions.”
CAIR Strongly Denies the Claims
For its part, CAIR firmly rejected all allegations, describing Abbott’s statements as “politically motivated incitement” aimed at undermining the organization’s credibility and its work defending the rights of American Muslims.
CAIR leaders emphasized that the group operates under federal law, maintains full financial transparency and that the repeated claims of Brotherhood links “lack evidence and are part of a systematic campaign targeting Muslim civil society.”
Identity Politics or Legitimate Concerns?
Analysts say the renewed debate reflects the broader political polarization in the United States over issues such as immigration, national security and political Islam.
Others note that similar accusations have surfaced for years without any legal proof directly tying CAIR to the Muslim Brotherhood suggesting that the controversy remains deeply intertwined with the country’s ongoing battles over identity and political narratives.
