Paris Forum: Trump’s Terror Designation of the Muslim Brotherhood Aligns with Europe’s Growing Pushback.
Paris — Jamal Al-Awadhi, Secretary-General of the Paris Forum for Peace and Development PFPD, stated that U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization came at the right moment, describing it as a continuation of European efforts to curb what he called the group’s increasingly concerning activities across the continent.
Al-Awadhi emphasized that the designation marks a critical turning point in the international approach to countering the misuse of religion for political or extremist agendas. He noted that the Brotherhood “has long operated behind religious slogans to advance its ideological rhetoric and practices.”
He added that the move could strengthen security and stability, paving the way for more effective measures to address the roots of extremism. Al-Awadhi also stressed the need for broader international cooperation in the coming period to ensure that religion is not exploited in ways that may threaten social peace.
Trump’s designation follows a series of steps taken by several European countries to restrict the group’s influence, along with warnings and documented concerns raised by the European Parliament in its recent reports on the activities of political Islam movements in Europe.
