National Center for Human Rights Calls for the Immediate Release of Activist Fatima Saleh Al-Arrouli
The National Center for Human Rights and Democratic Development (NCHRDD) has called on the Houthi militia leadership in Sana’a to immediately and unconditionally release civil activist Dr. Fatima Saleh Al-Arrouli, who has been detained for three years and four months under conditions described as “inhumane and in violation of all laws and international conventions.”
The Center stated that the continued detention of Al-Arrouli, and the denial of her most basic human rights, constitutes a grave violation of human rights, noting that every day of her detention “feels like a thousand years,” amid the absence of justice and the persistence of suffering.
The Center explained that it received a deeply moving message from her brother, Tareq Saleh Al-Arrouli, in which he questioned the existence of human conscience and Arab solidarity. He affirmed that his sister, a native of Al-Bayda Governorate and a human rights defender, was subjected to enforced disappearance for one year and two months, before being imprisoned in an underground cell, deprived of visits and communication for ten months, and facing a death sentence without evidence.
Quoting her brother, the Center reported that Fatima is a mother of two children who are waiting for her, as he asked: “How can someone without guilt be convicted? How can a confession be extracted from someone who has endured for three years and four months? And where is mercy?”
In his message, Tareq Al-Arrouli added that his sister has been living for nearly four years in harsh conditions “underground, without sunlight or fresh air,” while her family has been denied the right to visit her or even to check on her health, amid ongoing procrastination by the concerned authorities under various pretexts and procedures.
The National Center for Human Rights affirmed its full solidarity with Fatima Al-Arrouli’s family, joining her brother and all human rights voices in demanding her immediate release and guaranteeing her family’s right to visit her and be reassured about her health condition.
The Center also appealed to the spiritual leader of the Sana’a government to urgently intervene to release activist Fatima Al-Arrouli and to guarantee her legitimate and humanitarian rights, foremost among them the right to visits and dignified treatment—rights guaranteed by divine religions and international laws—while the intelligence apparatus continues to deny her family these rights.
The Center emphasized that what Fatima Al-Arrouli is enduring “represents a wound in the heart of every free human being,” calling for an immediate end to this injustice and for respect for human dignity and the right to justice and freedom.
