UAE Issues Statement on Recent Developments in Yemen
Abu Dhabi – The United Arab Emirates has expressed deep regret over the recent statement issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding the UAE’s role in the ongoing events in Yemen, stressing that the statement contained “fundamental inaccuracies” that misrepresent the UAE’s position.
According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the UAE firmly rejected being implicated in the tensions among Yemeni parties and denounced claims suggesting it pressured or directed any Yemeni faction to carry out military operations against Saudi Arabia or its borders.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the UAE’s unwavering commitment to the security and stability of Saudi Arabia, emphasizing full respect for its sovereignty and national security. It underscored that the historic brotherly ties between the two nations remain a cornerstone of regional stability, with the UAE consistently seeking full coordination with Saudi counterparts.
The ministry highlighted that since the onset of developments in Hadramout and Al-Mahra governorates, the UAE’s position has focused on containment, supporting de-escalation, and promoting understandings to safeguard stability and protect civilians, in coordination with Saudi Arabia.
Regarding the statement issued by the coalition’s military spokesperson on the Mukalla Port operation, the UAE categorically rejected allegations of fueling the Yemeni conflict, noting that the statement was released without consultation with coalition member states.
The ministry clarified that the shipment in question contained no weapons, and the vehicles unloaded were intended solely for use by UAE forces operating in Yemen. It added that there had been prior high-level coordination with Saudi Arabia regarding these vehicles, and the UAE was surprised by their targeting at Mukalla Port.
The UAE stressed that its presence in Yemen came at the invitation of the legitimate Yemeni government and within the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia, aimed at restoring legitimacy and combating terrorism. It highlighted the sacrifices made by the UAE and its continued support for the Yemeni people.
Concluding its statement, the ministry emphasized that handling recent developments must be done responsibly, in a way that prevents escalation, relies on verified facts, and maintains coordination among concerned parties contributing to political solutions and ending the Yemeni crisis.
