UN Envoy Hans Grundberg Concludes Regional Tour to Advance Political Settlement in Yemen
Manama– United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg has concluded a regional visit to Oman and Bahrain, aimed at reinvigorating efforts toward a comprehensive political settlement to the conflict in Yemen.
During his four-day tour from October 27 to November 3, Grundberg held high-level meetings in Muscat with senior Omani officials, Ansar Allah’s chief negotiator Mohammed Abdul Salam, and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi. The discussions focused on de-escalation strategies, humanitarian access, and conditions for resuming inclusive UN-sponsored peace talks.
In Bahrain, Grundberg participated in the Manama Dialogue, where he met with Yemeni government representatives including Foreign Minister Shaya Zindani and Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Sagheer Aziz. He emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and restraint to create a conducive environment for dialogue and conflict resolution.
The UN envoy reiterated his call for all parties to engage constructively and take practical steps to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people. He stressed that the regional context offers a critical opportunity to revive momentum toward a negotiated peace.
Grundberg’s visit comes amid rising tensions and humanitarian concerns, with the UN continuing to advocate for a durable ceasefire and inclusive political process that addresses the aspirations of all Yemenis.
