Marib – Authorities in Yemen’s Marib governorate have revealed the details of a foiled plot orchestrated by the Houthi militia to target senior military and security officials in the strategic province. 

The operation, described as a “major security breakthrough,” was announced by the General Directorate of Police in Marib following the arrest of members of a Houthi-linked intelligence cell.

According to security sources, the cell was operating under the direction of the Houthi Security and Intelligence Service and had been planning a series of targeted attacks aimed at destabilizing the province. 

The suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in surveillance and planning operations, which included identifying high-ranking officials and sensitive locations.

The confessions and details of the plot are set to be featured in a new documentary titled “Sleeping with One Eye Open – Part 3,” scheduled for broadcast by local authorities. 

The film will highlight the methods used by the Houthis to infiltrate liberated areas and the countermeasures taken by Marib’s security forces to neutralize the threat.

Marib, a vital oil-producing region and a stronghold of Yemen’s internationally recognized government, has long been a target of Houthi military campaigns. 

The latest revelations underscore the group’s continued efforts to undermine stability through covert operations, even as peace efforts remain stalled.

Security officials praised the vigilance of intelligence units and called for heightened cooperation among citizens to report suspicious activities. 

“This operation is a testament to the resilience of our security apparatus and the importance of community awareness in confronting subversive threats,” a senior police official stated.

The attempted infiltration comes amid broader concerns over renewed Houthi escalations in Marib and other frontlines, as well as the group’s rejection of recent UN Security Council resolutions extending sanctions and expert monitoring.
