ICRC Warns Yemen Faces Risk of Becoming a Forgotten Crisis
Aden — The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has issued a stark warning that Yemen’s prolonged conflict and humanitarian suffering are at risk of fading from global focus, despite worsening conditions on the ground.
In a recent statement, the organization emphasized that millions of Yemenis continue to endure violence, displacement, and economic hardship, while international attention shifts elsewhere.
The ICRC highlighted that healthcare services are increasingly difficult to access, especially in conflict-affected areas like Marib, where camps for displaced families remain overcrowded and under-resourced.
In places like Swaida camp, near Yemen’s longest active front line, daily life is marked by scarcity, insecurity, and isolation, with little hope for improvement.
“Yemen is slipping into silence,” said a spokesperson for the ICRC. “The suffering is immense, but the headlines have disappeared. We must not allow this crisis to be forgotten.”
The organization also pointed to the compounding effects of climate change, economic collapse, and ongoing violence, which have deepened the humanitarian emergency.
With over 19 million people in need of assistance and more than 83% of the population living in poverty, the ICRC urged donors and international actors to renew their commitment to Yemen’s recovery.
Humanitarian agencies warn that without sustained support, critical lifelines such as food aid, medical care, and protection services could collapse, leaving vulnerable communities exposed to further suffering.
The ICRC’s appeal comes as Yemen marks a decade of conflict, with no comprehensive peace agreement in sight.
The organization continues to operate across the country, providing emergency relief, supporting hospitals, and advocating for the protection of civilians.
