Qatar Intercepts Iranian Missile Strike on U.S. Base Amid Escalating Tensions

Qatar’s air defense systems successfully intercepted a barrage of Iranian missiles targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest U.S. military installation in the Middle East, late Monday evening. The strike was part of Iran’s retaliatory campaign—dubbed “Annunciation of Victory”—following U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend.
Explosions were heard across Doha, prompting Qatar to temporarily close its airspace and issue shelter-in-place advisories. Despite the intensity of the attack, no casualties were reported, and Qatari authorities condemned the strike as a “flagrant violation” of their sovereignty.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility, stating the strike was a “mighty and successful response” to what it called American aggression. The U.S. Department of Defense confirmed the attempted strike and praised Qatar’s swift defensive response.
The incident marks a dangerous escalation in the region, with U.S. forces across the Gulf now on high alert. Qatar has reserved the right to respond in accordance with international law, while global leaders urge restraint to avoid a broader conflict.
