UAE : Sharjah Inaugurates First-Ever Solar Power Plant

Sharjah has officially launched its first utility-scale solar power plant, named SANA, in a landmark move toward sustainable energy. The facility was inaugurated on June 25, 2025, by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Petroleum Department.
Located next to the Sajaa Gas Plant, the solar farm spans 850,000 square meters and boasts a capacity of 60 megawatts, enough to power nearly 13,800 homes annually. It is expected to offset 66,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year, making it one of the first large-scale oil and gas processing facilities globally to meet its own energy needs through on-site solar generation.
The project was developed by the Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) in partnership with Emerge, and is seen as a symbol of innovation, teamwork, and Sharjah’s commitment to a greener future. Many of the engineers behind the project are young Emirati graduates, highlighting the initiative’s role in nurturing national talent.
Officials emphasized that SANA is not just a power plant but a strategic investment in energy security, environmental stewardship, and economic diversification.
