Yemen : President Al-Alimi , German Ambassador Discuss Escalating Houthi Threats
Aden — On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, held a pivotal meeting at Ma’ashiq Palace with Mr. Thomas Schneider, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Yemen, to discuss the latest developments in the Yemeni crisis and broader regional security challenges.
The talks focused on the intensifying threats posed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia, which continue to undermine international peace and maritime stability. President Al-Alimi expressed grave concern over the growing influx of weapons to the Houthis, warning that such developments not only embolden the militia but also facilitate its collaboration with terrorist organizations, further destabilizing the region.
President Al-Alimi emphasized the urgent need for international cooperation to curb arms smuggling and disrupt the networks enabling militant alliances. He praised Germany’s consistent support for Yemen’s sovereignty and its humanitarian contributions, noting Berlin’s role as one of the largest donors to the UN-led Humanitarian Response Plan.
Ambassador Schneider reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting Yemen’s political leadership and reform efforts. He reiterated Berlin’s stance against any actions that threaten regional peace, and expressed readiness to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas of development, governance, and counterterrorism.
The meeting also touched on Germany’s and the European Union’s strategic role in supporting Yemen’s recovery, particularly in strengthening institutional resilience and alleviating the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the ongoing conflict.
This high-level engagement comes amid mounting international concern over the Houthis’ escalatory behavior, including attacks on shipping lanes and alleged coordination with extremist groups. Yemen’s leadership continues to call for stronger global action to address these threats and safeguard regional stability.
