Shabwa -- Forces affiliated with Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council (STC) have officially taken over the protection of the Al-Aqla oil facility in Shabwa governorate. 

The handover marks a significant shift in local security arrangements, as the strategic site is one of the most important energy assets in the region.

According to local sources, STC units were deployed to secure the facility following coordination with relevant authorities. 

The move is aimed at ensuring the safety of operations, safeguarding workers, and maintaining stability around the oil infrastructure amid ongoing tensions in the governorate.

The Al-Aqla site has long been considered vital to Yemen’s energy sector, and its protection is seen as critical to sustaining production and preventing disruptions.
