Authorities in Saudi Arabia have reportedly arrested the head of the Yemeni affiliate of the Muslim Brotherhood yesterday.

According the Yemen Press Agency, sources revealed that the Saudis detained Mohammed Al-Yadomi, who is chairman of the supreme commission of the Islah Party, as he attempted to leave the kingdom illegally.

The Saudis have previously placed exiled Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi along with his sons, ministers and military officials under house arrest and prevented them from leaving the country.

Tribal militia who are associated with the Islah Party in Yemen are supported by the Saudis and make up a large part of ground forces fighting to overthrow the Houthi-led National Salvation Government based in the capital Sanaa.

Following recent advances, the joint Houthi and Yemeni army forces are closing in on the Islah stronghold of Marib, having seized the neighbouring province of Al-Jawf. They have already entered a few districts peacefully after some tribes surrendered. The Islah forces are on the verge of collapse, and should Marib fall, it will lead to the defeat of Hadi’s forces who – along with mercenaries – form much of the infantry of Saudi’s war efforts on the ground. Yesterday Saudi-led coalition warplanes carried out 27 air raids on several areas in the Hajjah, Sanaa, Al-Jawf and Marib provinces.
