EU Calls for Lifting Restrictions on Humanitarian Aid in Yemen

Aden — The European Union has issued a renewed call for the immediate lifting of all restrictions hindering the delivery of humanitarian assistance in Yemen, warning that continued obstruction threatens the lives of millions amid one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
In an official statement released by the EU External Action Service, the bloc urged all parties to the conflict—particularly the Houthi authorities controlling northern Yemen—to ensure unimpeded access for humanitarian organizations and to remove bureaucratic barriers that delay or block aid operations.
“The European Union reiterates its deep concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen and calls for the full and unhindered delivery of aid to those in need,” the statement read. “Restrictions on movement, interference in aid distribution, and delays in project approvals must end immediately.”
EU officials emphasized that humanitarian aid must remain neutral and independent, and should not be politicized or used as leverage in the conflict. They also called on international donors and partners to maintain support for relief efforts, noting that over 21 million Yemenis are in need of assistance, including food, healthcare, and shelter.
The EU reaffirmed its commitment to supporting humanitarian agencies working in Yemen and pledged continued funding for life-saving programs. It also welcomed recent efforts by UN agencies to negotiate improved access and accountability mechanisms with local authorities.
Humanitarian groups operating in Yemen have long reported challenges including detention of aid workers, confiscation of supplies, and restrictions on female staff. The EU’s statement adds diplomatic weight to growing international pressure for reforms that protect humanitarian space and ensure aid reaches vulnerable populations without delay.
