IOM Reports Over 200 New Displacements in Yemen, Most Fleeing to Marib

Aden — The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has announced that more than 200 individuals were newly displaced within Yemen during the past week, citing ongoing insecurity and deteriorating living conditions.
According to the IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), 34 households — totaling 204 people — were forced to flee their homes between September 28 and October 4, 2025.
The majority of these internally displaced persons (IDPs) sought refuge in Marib governorate, which continues to serve as a key destination for families escaping conflict zones and economic hardship.
Marib has long been considered a relative safe haven, though its capacity to absorb new arrivals remains under strain due to overcrowded camps and limited resources.
Since the beginning of 2025, IOM Yemen has tracked 2,382 displaced households — representing 14,292 individuals — who have experienced displacement at least once this year. The organization uses its Rapid Displacement Tracking tool to monitor daily movements and assess urgent humanitarian needs.
Humanitarian agencies warn that the continued displacement reflects the broader crisis facing Yemen, where conflict, economic collapse, and climate-related shocks have left millions vulnerable. Despite some returns to areas of origin, many families remain unable to go back due to insecurity, damaged infrastructure, or lack of services.
IOM has called for increased support to meet the needs of displaced populations, including shelter, food, water, and healthcare. The organization also emphasized the importance of long-term solutions, such as livelihood support and community stabilization programs, to reduce the risk of repeated displacement.
As Yemen enters its eleventh year of conflict, the humanitarian situation remains one of the most complex and protracted in the world. The latest displacement figures underscore the urgent need for sustained international engagement and funding to protect civilians and support recovery efforts.
