UAE Delivers Vital Support to 11 Hospitals in Yemen’s Shabwa Governorate
Shabwa -- The United Arab Emirates has officially handed over 11 rehabilitated hospitals to local authorities in Shabwa Governorate, as part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts to strengthen medical services in underserved regions.
The initiative, led by the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Work, marks the second phase of a comprehensive health sector support project in Shabwa. The hospitals—located in districts including Al-Saeed, Nisab, Habban, Rudum, Talh, Al-Rawda, Ain, Asilan, Jardan, Lower Markha, and Habban—have undergone full infrastructure upgrades and have been equipped with modern medical devices, ambulances, and essential supplies.
According to local officials, the total cost of the project is estimated at $3.7 million, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes for Yemeni citizens. The handover ceremony was attended by Shabwa Governor Awad bin Al-Wazir, who praised the UAE’s “unlimited generosity” and its strategic role in supporting
Yemen’s recovery and development.
“This initiative is a lifeline for thousands of families across Shabwa,” said a spokesperson from the governorate’s health office. “The upgraded facilities will significantly improve emergency response, maternal care, and chronic disease management in rural and remote areas.”
The UAE’s support comes amid growing humanitarian needs in Yemen, where years of conflict have severely damaged public services and left millions without access to adequate healthcare. The Khalifa Foundation’s efforts in Shabwa are part of a broader regional strategy to restore essential infrastructure, empower local institutions, and alleviate suffering.
Local communities have welcomed the move, calling for sustained international engagement to ensure the long-term sustainability of health services. The UAE has pledged continued support through training programs, supply chains, and technical assistance to help the newly equipped hospitals operate at full capacity.
