FAO Appeals for Over $86 Million to Support Humanitarian Response in Yemen in 2026
Aden — The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has announced that it requires more than $86 million to fund its humanitarian response plan in Yemen for the coming year.
The appeal underscores the urgent need to address widespread food insecurity, malnutrition, and livelihood disruptions affecting millions of Yemenis amid ongoing conflict and economic collapse.
FAO stated that the requested funding will be directed toward emergency agricultural support, including the provision of seeds, tools, and livestock assistance, as well as the rehabilitation of irrigation systems and veterinary services.
The organization emphasized that strengthening local food production is critical to reducing dependence on imported aid and ensuring long-term resilience for vulnerable communities.
According to FAO, Yemen remains one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with over 17 million people food insecure and millions at risk of famine.
The agency warned that without adequate funding, its ability to deliver life-saving assistance and protect rural livelihoods will be severely compromised.
In its statement, FAO called on international donors to step up support, stressing that investment in Yemen’s agriculture sector is essential not only to meet immediate humanitarian needs but also to stabilize food systems and promote recovery in the years ahead.
